Friends of Trisomy 21 Center Donate $300,000 To CHOP
On March 1, 2005, the Friends of Trisomy 21 Center, proudly presented The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with a check in the amount of $300,000. In three years, The Friends along with others have donated more than $670,000 to Children's to build the Trisomy 21 Program. This money is a direct result of the benevolence of family, friends, and corporate sponsors who believe in our mission and support our cause so generously. Together with Doctors Lynch and Pipan and their wonderful staff at the Center, we are looking forward to an even brighter future for the 350,000 Americans with Down syndrome.
2nd Annual Trisomy 21 Education Symposium
Sponsored by the Automobile Dealers Association of the Greater Philadelphia Area
On March 12, 2005, the Automobile Dealers Association of the Greater Philadelphia Area sponsored the Second Annual Educational Symposium on Trisomy 21. The event was held at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and was well attended (actually, a "sell out") Parents, medical professionals, and caregivers, and all who participated were extremely pleased with the presentation and informative seminar. The symposium gained attention by the media and mentioned on the news the next day.
Speakers included David Lynch, M.D., Ph.D., Director and Researcher at the Trisomy 21 Center at CHOP; Libby Kumin, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Founder of Down Syndrome Program and Professor & Dept. Chair, Dept. of Speech-Language Pathology, Loyola College, Baltimore, MD; and Keynote Speaker was George Capone, M.D., Research Scientist and Director of the Down Syndrome Clinic, Kennedy Krieger Institute, and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. These and other accomplished professionals led discussion groups on such topics as Nutrition, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, ENT, Behavior, and various issues affecting individuals with Trisomy 21.
